Meet the Teachers

Dr. Craig Blackburn

Dr. Blackburn has served as a teacher, administrator, and educational thought leader in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years.  He began his career as an elementary school teacher in a Lutheran school in Southern California before moving to the Bay Area where he taught in an elementary school in the East Bay.  He left the classroom to assume positions as a middle school assistant principal, then elementary principal.  His curiosity about authentic assessment led him to take the lead assessment role in a school district. Always interested in technology and possible learning applications of new technologies, Craig joined a county office of education as the Director of Educational Technology.  He served in many capacities during his 15-year tenure at the county office of education, including Director of Technology Programs & Instructional Support, Director of Enterprise Technologies & Learning, and most recently, Director of Professional Learning for integrated science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).  In each of these roles he focused on student learning and innovative instructional practices such as blended & online learning, personalized learning, and competency-based assessment. Dr. Blackburn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Christ College, Irvine, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University, Portland.  In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, hiking, fly fishing, cooking, and exploring everything Napa Valley has to offer.
